Adil Rashid defends Mohammad Shah and Akmal Rafiq in comment about Michael Vaughan

Former England batsman Michael Vaughan has been slammed by one of his own team-mates for his response to comments made by Adil Rashid. The Pakistani spinner responded to comments made by Vaughan in the wake of the defection of Test batsman Akmal Mushtaq to Pakistan earlier this week, saying the former captain offered to resolve the issue by arranging a meeting with the team’s Pakistani players. Rashid claimed this raised further questions about Vaughan’s commitment to the series and has now backed up Muhammad Owais Shah’s account of the incident.

“Michael Vaughan didn’t just offer to hold a meeting. He actually said that was the easiest thing in the world to do. The hardest thing is saying no. So that really put me off.”

Rashid added that the incident was an attempt to “make the rest of the team uncomfortable” and described the image of the three boys in the photo meant for an international tournament “highly inappropriate.”

Vaughan is yet to respond to Rashid’s claim, but clearly has something to say himself. Earlier this week, he told The Daily Telegraph: “It is too easy to say Michael Vaughan shouldn’t have spoken out as he is one of the greatest cricketers this country has produced.

“Yet when are we all going to recognise he is as bad a cricketer as they say he is?”
